Deciding
where to ski can often be the easy part, with many skiers having
favoured destinations or a long list of resorts to tick off. But once
you destination has been decided, it can often be more tricky finding
the right place to stay and the type of place matters just as much as
where in the world you go on your ski holidays.
Each type of accommodation has its merits and drawbacks, and which one
you choose is dependent on your needs and personality, with that in mind
lets weigh up the pros and cons. |

Hotels |
|
|
|
The vast majority of skiers stay in hotels, ranging from small scale
private ones to larger ones accommodating a few hundred people.
Advantages of hotels are the staff support which is always on hand
should anything go wrong and hotel bars serving food and drink all day
and a fair amount of the night. Most hotels have a restaurant, serve
breakfast and many offer lunch, although it is often easier to eat right
by the slopes unless you have a conveniently located hotel. They often
run quiz nights and arrange other activities such as bum-boarding,
giving a great social edge to a holiday. When travelling with a group of
friends, hotels offer a good way to meet other skiers and have a good
time, one of the biggest advantages to ski resort hotels. |

Chalets |
|
|
|
Families and groups of friends who want a more private experience often
opt to stay in a chalet as opposed to a hotel. Chalets house from four
for a small to up to fifteen for a large, and are almost all self
catered. This has the obvious advantages of not having to adhere to
eating times for all-inclusive resorts and being able to eat for less if
you cook for yourself. For families the chalets are good because they
offer the privacy many parents want when traveling away for a family
break. For groups of friends they are good as they can offer the
relaxing comfort of having a place of your own as opposed to just a
hotel room. However, young groups of friends usually opt for hotels due
to the cheaper prices and greater social element. |

All in all the type of accommodation you go for will be dictated by what
kind of holiday you are looking for and the budget you are on. However,
for ease and comfort, chalets edge out in front of hotels. And once
you’ve saved money by booking
cheap flights with Monarch, a chalet may not be so expensive at all.
