Go back to resorts home

The French Alps are probably the most famous place for skiing in Europe, with skiers traveling from around the globe each winter. France has more than 100 ski resorts and whatever you level you're needs are sure to be met.

The skiing resorts
The oldest and perhaps most famous resort is Chamonix. It is the largest ski resort in the Alps and was home to the first winter Olympic games. Mont Blanc towers over the resort with the worlds highest cable car ferrying people to the top for the amazing views.

Lourdes is another well known ski resort and is conveniently surrounded by many other ski resorts so you'll be spoilt for choice of where to ski.

Val d`Isere is another well known luxurious ski resort that retains a traditional alpine feel. There is an `Old Town` with quaint old stone properties lining the streets.

Courchevel is located in the Savoie region of the French Alps, and part of Les Trois Vallées, the largest linked ski area in the world. This resort has been around since the second world war when development began and even has it's own airport.

Mageve is another popular ski resort at the foot of Mont Blanc and boasts a luxurious rustic chic style. It was built was the France's answer to St Moritz in Switzerland in the 1920`s and has many luxurious hotels.

Font Remeu is a real romantic find for ski enthusiasts hidden deep in the valley and is well situated in the Catalan Pyrenees for exploring the region.

Morzine is a traditional market town in the heart of the Portes du Soleil and home to many beautiful chalets. There are some partially wooded slopes to allow for skiing in poor weather conditions. This is a good resort for beginner and intermediate skiers.

Thollon les Memises is is situated in the Chablais area of the Haute-Savoie department in the Northern Alps. Here you can choose from 16 different ski runs and enjoy the views over Lake Geneva.

Getting there
Getting to and from you skiing holiday has never been easier. There are now many flights from the UK to top skiing areas operated by a variety of carries including some low cost airlines. However remember to check with the airline on their policy for carrying skis before flying.

Geneva is a well situated airport for many skiing resorts and on arrival you might like to consider car hire at Geneva Airport. Hiring a car is an easy way to get to your resort especially if you're traveling in a group and can share the cost or bringing your own ski equipment and don't want to take it on public transport. It is also useful to have your own way of getting around so you're not just confined to the resort and can explore the area. Some package deals may include transfers which would be good for someone who is new to skiing and unfamiliar with the area and weather conditions.
