| Sierra
Nevada has promises for extensive investment, along with its Winter
Olympic 2010 bid. Sierra Nevada offers
Europe's most southerly skiing opportunity, and thus a southerly
latitude providing unpredictable snow cover. The resort used to use
the slogan Sol y Nieve (sun and snow). The purpose built village is
known as Pradollano.
|
| The resort
is to bid for the 2010 Winter Olympics, in conjunction with nearby
Granada. The village is short on Alpine charm yet is perhaps not as
ugly as nearby Andorra. Most accommodation is hotels and buildings
tend to date back to the 1960s/70s. |

The Skiing: Skiing is
likely to be interrupted by either too much or too little snow. So
much so, the 1995 World Alpine Skiing Championships were delayed by a
year due to insufficient snow. However, when the conditions are good,
the skiing is excellent. On sunny days, one can see stunning views,
including Morocco. There tends to be lots of
queues at weekends due to its close proximity to Granada and Costa del
Sol. |
